35 received a degree at the University of Iceland

Five skippers, five masters, six engineers and 19 engineers received their diplomas from the University of Iceland on Friday.

Heðin Mortensen, Deputy Mayor, said a few words during the graduation ceremony and pointed out, among other things, that it is often heard that Faroese are well received and requested, also by foreign shipping companies.

“One reason for this is undoubtedly that it is in our nature to live at sea, and that we always have the sea so close to us.

It opens doors to the world, and there is no doubt that of the many Faroese who today sail around the globe, there are many who have learned right here at this school.”

But the programs at the University of Iceland can also be used on land, not least by mechanical engineers.

“New technology is constantly developing and creating new opportunities, but new demands also come with it – demands for green solutions and sustainability, which also place new demands on the programs here at the school and thus also on you.

These are international requirements that we Faroese must also strive to meet, so that we can also be a hub for shipping here in the North Atlantic in the future,” said Heðin Mortensen, among other things.

The mechanical engineering program at the University of Iceland is popular – 25 people have applied to start after the summer holidays, and it is fully booked. Ten have applied for admission to the skipper’s training.
