A new daycare center will now be built in Klaksvík
At the city council meeting on Thursday evening, June 26, 2025, the city council agreed to start building a new day care centre, which should be ready as soon as possible. This will be done as part of the work to ensure available day care places and to avoid waiting lists.
For many years, the municipality of Klaksvík has managed to have security of care within the day care area, but in recent months the municipality has not been able to live up to this security. In addition, there are day care centers that are located in buildings that are not built for the purpose. Therefore, there is no doubt that there is a need for new construction in this important area.
One of the goals of the new city council majority is to work focusedly towards a timely day care area, so that children and adults have the best opportunities to thrive and develop.
An important first step in this direction was taken at the city council meeting on Thursday evening, June 26, 2025, where the city council agreed to undertake an expansion of the day care area.
We have a fixed retirement age
Annika S. Biskopstø, chairwoman of the Welfare Committee for Children & Young People, welcomes the city council’s approval:
– We want to have a timely day care area for our youngest citizens and the hardworking staff in the area, and by expanding the nature kindergarten Baldursbrá we put a stop to this trend. As a city council majority, we also want to strengthen cleanliness, and this is a crucial step on the road to achieving this goal.
For some time it has been discussed to undertake this development, which is the second phase of construction, where the outdoor area is already largely made for both phases of construction, and the intention is that Baldursbrá and the development should have the same management. It is therefore considered that the development of Baldursbrá is the most natural next step in the day care area.
The intention is to start this work immediately, so that the new halls will be available early next year.
Snjallabjalla got necessary premises
On Thursday evening, June 26, 2025, the city council also agreed to provide Snjallubjalla with the necessary premises at the northern end of the KÍ hall for the activities of the after-school club.
There is an urgent need for these halls this summer, because a large class of children comes to Snjallubjalla in August. There is a need to upgrade Snjallubjalla with about 30 children if the municipality is to be able to offer everyone a after-school program.
The use of the halls in the northern end of the KÍ hall will be valid for about 2 years, so that there will be room for these children.
