Digital driving license recognized in the Faroe Islands and Denmark
From 1 July 2025, Faroese drivers can use a digital driving license in Denmark – and Danish drivers can also use a digital driving license in the Faroe Islands.
This is the result of an agreement signed by the Minister of Transport, Jóhan Christiansen, and the Danish Minister of Transport, Thomas Danielsen, on 26 May this year.
With this step, we have made it possible for drivers to use a digital driving license – regardless of whether you are in the Faroe Islands or Denmark.
It is hoped that this agreement is the first step on the road to a Faroese digital driving license being approved in more EU countries, says Jóhan Christiansen, Minister of State for Transport.
A digital driving license is thus equivalent to an ordinary driving license and can be used as legal proof of driving in both the Faroe Islands and Denmark.
