EU bans red tape
Mink farming will be banned in the EU from 2027. A majority of EU member states have decided to put the mink on the EU list of invasive species.
The city of Lima has had to stop all mink farming for two years now.
In November 2020, the Danish government shut down the mink industry due to Covid, and ordered farmers to kill all minks in the country.
The farmers were promised compensation and the faster they killed the minks, the more money they would get.
But now, more than four years later, far from everyone has received compensation. 1229 have applied, but only 208 had received it on 31.12.2024.
Denmark has voted against the EU regulation, and the government will apply for a special system for Danish mink farmers.
The system shall make it possible to continue mink farming in Denmark.
