Gave a speech over 8 hours

Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries delivered the longest speech in House history on Thursday.

He held the floor for well over eight hours to delay the passage of the Republican domestic policy bill. The infamous “Big beatiful bill”

His so-called “magic minute”, as the unlimited speaking time of the party leaders is known, breaks records.

“I feel a duty, Mr. Prime Minister, to stand on this podium and spend both good and long time,” Jeffries said at one point.

As a minority speaker, he has the right to speak as long as he wants. He has previously said that he was going to take a good time.
