Team? Havnar Badminton Club (HBF)

How long have you been practicing badminton?

I started training with HBF when I was 6 years old. Before that I played badminton with my family.

What do you like best about badminton?

I really like the cohesion and coming to practice after a long day. I also really like competing, getting better and especially winning.

What is your favorite color? Single, double or mix?

I like double and mix best. That’s because I like the slower pace, and I think it’s more fun to play with someone else.

What is your favorite genre?

It must be cut.

Who is your role model in badminton?

At the moment I don’t have a role model, I’m just trying my best to improve myself. When I was younger, it was my brother who was my role model, and it was he who got me to start playing badminton.

How does it feel to be selected for the Island Games?

It feels great. Especially since there has been tough competition for the places to join, and I didn’t know if my hard work would pay off. I was very happy when I got the call about the selection.

What are your goals for the Island Games in Orkney?

My biggest goal is to win the team competition again. I will try my best to help the team win. I want to improve my own performance. Last time I didn’t get a medal in the individual competition, and I’m going to try to change that this year.

How do you prepare for the competition?

The training has been going on all season. We practice technique, strength and conditioning, as well as match training. Since I was selected for the Island Games, the seriousness has increased even more, and especially after the Icelandic Championships, because then I got to focus fully on the preparation for the Island Games.

I’m most looking forward to the team competition, and the cohesion. I am also looking forward to playing the individual tournament and seeing how my level is compared to the players from the other countries.
