Laura and Sander help teething babies
Dimma.fo spoke to Laura’s husband, Sander Vogelenz, in Leirvík today.
Laura and he are currently traveling, together with 13 teenagers who have various challenges.
Young people are on board to develop, both personally and socially.
They do their homework on the trip and communicate with teachers via the Internet while they are at the quay.
Laura and her husband also help if the young people need it, as it was when dimma.fo was there today. Laura was on board with them
The journey began in the Netherlands. The route then went under the Orkney Islands, on its way to the Faroe Islands.
The couple was on their first trip to the Faroe Islands last year. They then landed in Fuglafjörður, but there was no room there today and so they ended up in Leirvík.
When they leave again, they first go to Norway. They are going to sail inland and go past Ålesund and there on the way, because they have heard that it is so beautiful there.
“Laura Dekker World Sailing Foundation was founded in 2018 by Laura and Sander. This is to provide education to young people, to develop life skills such as teamwork, self-confidence, responsibility, creativity and leadership.
The challenge of traveling in foreign countries and long-distance sailing provides a particularly powerful and extremely effective environment for the personal development of children and teenagers.
Teenagers from all kinds of backgrounds.
This and more about this interesting, charitable association, can be read on the website of the World Sailing Foundation
Sander explains that his wife does this to be able to give out of kindness. To show that you can live the good life. That most things are possible.
He also says that, although they are on the same boat, they have not learned to fish yet. But they have a good time socially, that’s probably the most important thing.
