Negotiations on salary under education stalled

Now the negotiations that health workers, nurses, and other occupational groups, should receive a salary during training, have ended.

The purpose of paying them during their studies was to encourage more people to choose those jobs.

This is a new system that will make it possible for employees to undertake a health professional and academic education at the School of Health, while they are at work.

The qualifications in question are health assistants, nurses and educational assistants.

The Act does not stipulate the salary of employees with a training agreement, since the parties to

The labor market shall consult on wages.

The Municipal Employers’ Association and the Ministry of Finance have had five consultation meetings with the three trade unions, the Faroese Teachers’ Association, the Nurses’ Association and the Faroese Health Assistants’ Association, on wages during education.

The negotiations mainly focus on the salary of employees with training contracts.

The employers have moved several times in the negotiations without the unions compromising.

Therefore, only the employer has shown a real willingness to reach an agreement.

Employers think that the demand from the associations is too high and it may mean that no municipality/elderly area will

use training agreements.

The parties have decided to give up the negotiations and resume them after the summer holidays, says the Municipal Employers’ Association in a press release.
