New streamer tested in Bankerenn
Jákup Sverri has been on two hydrographic trips in May and June respectively.
These are the recurring trips at this time, where current meters are taken up, and when various inspections are done, the meters are put out again.
On the first trip, a new flow meter with a special buoyancy was tested in the Bank Stream. At the bottom of the Bank Stream there is a strong current of so-called surface water.
The Icelandic Oceanographic Institute has been measuring the current since the mid-1990s with so-called ADCP current meters (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler).
These use sound to measure the direction by means of the so-called Doppler effect.
