New travel collaboration in Leirvík
Every Thursday throughout the summer, Lilja Víká, who owns and runs VisitHomes, and Benjamin Gøte, a qualified tour guide, offer “Walks and homeliness”. This cooperation stems from the tourism project that Eysturkommuna launched earlier this year. This project lays the foundation for a tourism industry that will stimulate the enthusiastic, grow the partnerships and make the opportunities a little more for those living in the area.
This first Thursday, the walk was scheduled, I was so lucky to be there. The day started at Lilja’s house, where we were very well received. The weather was great – clear and dry, as it is so often in Leirvík – and the atmosphere was good from the start. Benjamin led us through the streets of the village, so that everyone, including the elderly, could follow. We heard children’s stories, stories about companies and activities in the village. Benjamin is very good at telling stories, even for those who walk the streets for the first time.
After about two hours Benjamin led us back to Lilja’s spacious and cozy house, where we were served fish soup and bread. Everything was homemade – including the butter. Everything was very tasty and suited well after a good walk.
We had a great time together, and it was a very special moment to meet people from different parts of the world. There were many stories, and it was fun to see how happy and grateful the tourists were for this experience. Giving time, welcoming and telling stories – Lilja and Benjamin do that very well.
Remember how much value we can find right outside our own door! With imagination and enthusiasm, we can create very special experiences together – and create memorable moments in Eysturkommuna.
Thank you for a good walk, good food and a rich experience, both of you.
