Nordic reader during the summer
Once again this year, a Nordic summer course has been held at the Faculty of Faroese at the Icelandic Academy of Sciences. For three weeks, 18 students from the Nordic countries have learned the Faroese language and got acquainted with Faroese literature.
This is a recurring summer course, called Nordkurs, organized by collaborating universities in the Nordic countries. The course lasts approximately 31⁄2 weeks and ends with an examination.
The purpose of Nordkurs is to give language and literature students in the Nordic countries the opportunity to visit universities and study languages in neighboring countries. More than 300 students participate each year. During the course it is common to go on excursions and visit museums. The picture shows the 18 northern course students at Gjógv.
Iben Nyholm Debess represents the Icelandic Academy of Sciences in Nordkurs. Uni Johannesen and stands together with Lena Reinert for most of the teaching. Other staff at the Faculty of Faroese give lectures and presentations. Nordkurs is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
