Now KÍ is the only opponent of Klaksvíkingar
Before the 16th round there was talk that this might be the round when there would again be much more excitement in the FM competition than it has been so far – if it is possible to talk about competition.
It would have been more exciting if Víkingur had won against KÍ at home, and if HB had won against B36 in the neighborhood match. That’s not how it turned out. Rather, it was the opposite.
KÍ won 1-0 in Gota, and the neighboring match in Gundadali ended 2-2.
Now the difference from KÍ and back to NSÍ, which after a 6-2 away win against TB, is second, 11 points, and the goal difference at KÍ is much more famous than it is at NSÍ.
When KÍ in 16 rounds has won 11 points ahead of NSÍ and HB, there is no reason to expect that Klaksvíkingar in the last 11 rounds will lose 11 points, and that NSÍ and HB will win the knockout stages.
The top three have internal simulations. On August 24 – on the 121st anniversary of KÍ – KÍ and HB meet in Klaksvík. It’s in the 20th round. In the 26th round, which will take place on Sunday 19 October, HB and NSÍ meet in Gundadali, and in the 27th and final round, which will take place on Saturday 25 October, NSÍ will be visited by KÍ.
If things go about as well as they have so far, it is likely that KÍ will be champions before Klaksvíkingar go out to Runavík to receive the Icelandic Championship trophy.
This week Víkingur, KÍ and NSÍ will play in Europe, while HB will not go into the European fire until the week before Olavsøkan.
It is impossible to imagine that KÍ will not be champion. If it is to become a reality, which it is impossible to imagine, that will be the reason, that KÍ will be very badly disturbed by the participation in the European competition. So that more of the key players will be injured, or that it will go quite well, and that the focus will be shifted from the domestic competition. KÍ has prepared for international participation by buying more players. The group is wide, so it will inevitably turn out the way the worst stress test might suggest.
In the bottom FC Suðuroy made one worse with a 4-3 victory at home against 07 Vestur. FC Suðuroy has not scored four goals in the best league since 27 September 2015, when FC Suðuroy won 5-2 at home against ÍF, FaroeSoccer knows.
This round was otherwise remarkable because both B68 and HB managed to rise after the opponent was ahead by two goals. HB was behind 2-0 and with 10 against 11 against B36, and eventually it ended 2-2. André Olsen is still undefeated as HB coach.
On the new grass at Svangaskarð, EB/Streymur were 2-0 ahead with 10 minutes left. So B68 responded again, and it ended 2-2.
