Pätur national team regular until 2029

– Women’s football in Faroe Islands has been in a strong culture in recent years, and we can see this again in the women’s national team. These last few months, where I have been active coach of the team, I have really noticed how the women’s national team has developed. The morale of the players is excellent, and we are convinced that great results are ahead, says Pætur Smith Clementsen

Pætur Smith Clementsen, who is 44 years old and has a UEFA PRO qualification, has been technical director of the FSF for the past 10 years. In this position, Pætur has been responsible for the sporting activities of the FSF. Now that Pætur will be appointed as women’s national team coach, he will immediately resign as technical director.

– The time as technical director of FSF has been incredibly exciting. Together with the clubs, we have taken important steps in the development of Faroese football. We have never had more active players than today, and we also have a record number of qualified coaches. In FSF we have built a strong football environment, and I feel confident in passing on the task, now that I am taking over as national team coach.

In the UEFA Nations League tournament, which has just ended, the Faroe Islands got 10 points. Christian Andreasen, FSF president, is pleased that an agreement has now been made with Pætur, so that the good progress of the national team can be built on.

– It has been incredibly enjoyable to follow the women’s national team this year. The team has performed convincingly with good and entertaining football. In the competition we have set a record, and I am therefore convinced that we and Pætur have got just the right coach for the women’s national team.

The new agreement with Pætur Smith Clementsen is valid until the end of 2029.

The process of appointing a new technical director begins immediately. Until a new technical director is appointed, Pætur Smith Clementsen will act as technical director in addition to the national team coach.
