Social utilization of our resources – that is the way forward
– We want to make the best possible use of the municipality’s existing premises, and that is why the city council has agreed to allow the after-school center Snjallubjalla access to well-suited premises at the northern end of the KÍ hall during the day, says Karl H. Johansen, Mayor.
It was in 2018 that we here in Klaksvík municipality received a particularly large class of newborns – a class that today counts about 100 children, which is 30 children more than most classes – and now that we are writing 2025, the year has come when these children go to school.
This is the reason why the city council has made a two-year agreement with the management of the sports halls and the sports area, for the use of two halls in the northern end of the KÍ hall for the after-school center Snjallabjalla.
A positive response
– It can be said that one of the most positive challenges that a city council can wish for is that the number of children increases, and therefore we in the city council have addressed this issue very positively, confirms Karl H. Johansen, Mayor.
– The city council has provided the sports clubs, which are housed in the sports ground, a good framework to work and develop in, and we are pleased with this and wish to continue.
– At the same time, it is a reality that part of these premises are not fully used during the day on weekdays, and therefore it is possible – with a good will from all parties – to let Snjallubjalla have access to two of the halls at the northern end of the KÍ-hall on Fridays, while on Fridays. the sports clubs – as today – can use these same halls in the evenings and on weekends as well as other holidays, confirms the mayor.
An exciting location
– As mayor, I am pleased that it is possible to find solutions where both after-school clubs, hall management and sports clubs cooperate, because it is this that makes such solutions possible.
– For Snjallubjalla and the children, the halls in the KÍ hall are an exciting location with good opportunities for activities in a vibrant sports environment.
– At the same time, this is also an opportunity for the clubs to get the younger generation closer to their sport, says Karl H. Johansen, Mayor.
Better use of tax money
Last but not least, the city council of course saves money by using its own halls even better, because if this were not possible, the city council would have been forced to either rent or make an investment in additional halls for Snjallubjalla.
– I am pleased with this, because better use of taxpayers’ money is one of our main issues, says Karl H. Johansen, Mayor.
