Spain wins the race for the first time

On Sunday, the temperature is expected to reach 40 degrees in the Seville region of Spain.

A climate scientist, whom Dagbladet.no spoke to, says that this could very well become the new normal in Europe.

– It is a big red flag, how quickly the changes in the climate in the world happen, says researcher Hans Olav Hygen.

He also says he is very surprised at how early in the year this heat wave hits southern Europe.

Several temperature records were set in Spain, Portugal and France as early as May.

This is a trend we’ll see more of he expects.

– I think heat waves will be an important part of the climate picture. – Especially in southern Europe in the near future, says the researcher.

In 2023, Spain was also hit by a similar heat wave.

Dana is another weather phenomenon Spain has been hit hard by. Both this winter with heavy rain and floods that took people and cars with them.

As late as last night, the scorching heat was interrupted by DANA, which came in from the Atlantic Ocean.

However, it quickly moved on and today there are approx. 32 degrees at the time of writing in Andalusia, in the south of the country.

If you ask the Spaniards themselves, or other permanent residents, they say that it has always been changing with the heat. Temperatures above 40 degrees are nothing new.

They are more worried about the rainy days. They remember it has never rained as badly as in recent years.

Dimma.fo recently wrote about the heat in Spain and we described the sun advice that the Spanish authorities issue. They are essential if you are planning a holiday in the south when it is hottest.
