That mistake wasn’t seen in the first half.
The assistant coach was worse in the first half than all the Faroese players. That’s why the question was whether Atli Gregersen shouldn’t have been substituted, someone joked during the break.
-We talked calmly about things in the locker room, but before we went out to the second half, everyone was clear that the mood had not been good enough in the first half. When Gibraltar had taken the lead, it felt like the margins were not there, and then it is extra necessary to sacrifice and tackle and run and fight. This was much better after the break, says assistant coach Atli Gregersen.
Hallur Hansson is the captain. He usually takes his turn, and after the 2-1 win against Gibraltar he is very happy:
-We have played well against good teams, which are ranked much higher than us, and we have done well. That’s why it would have been a big disappointment if we hadn’t won against Gibraltar, which is a lot below us on the FIFA rankings, says Hallur Hansson.
The captain went seriously in the second half, and this was perhaps his best national game since he was away from the national team for a long time because he was injured.
Did you think it would be a total downfall if you didn’t meet the popular demand, as it was that you won against Gibraltar?
-We have seen and heard some of what has been said and written. As I said, it would be a real disappointment for us if we didn’t win. Now it ended as it did, and it is nice to say goodbye and that we – if everything goes as it should – see each other again in early September, when the opponents will be Croatia at home and Gibraltar away, says Hallur Hansson.
