The crew will be landed in Israel

-The boat is safely on its way to Israel. The tourists are expected to return to their home country, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said in a post on social media X early Monday local time.

The Foreign Ministry released a video showing the crew of the “Madleen” sitting in rows in orange life jackets, while a soldier offers them water and chips.

In a video streamed live from the boat, activist Yasmin Acar showed a white substance on the deck, saying it had been dropped on the ship. Acar was later heard saying it affected her eyes.

Israel has no legal authority to keep international volunteers on board the Madleen, says Huwaida Arraf, human rights lawyer and organizer of the Freedom Flotilla.

This detention of the activists clearly violates international law, and goes against binding orders of the International Criminal Court. The message calls for unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza.

Foreign Minister Israel Katz promised several times before the incident that the military would prevent the aid boat from reaching Gaza. He also described the boat as a “celebrity selfie yacht.”

After the crew were taken into custody, Katz said in a post on X that he had instructed the soldiers when they enter the port of Ashdod to show the activists video of the Hamas attack on Israel from October 7, 2023.

Israel’s foreign ministry says the group tried to organize a media provocation whose sole purpose was to “expose themselves.”

In an earlier statement Monday, the council said

-Illegal attempts to break the blockade on Gaza are dangerous, illegal and undermine ongoing humanitarian efforts.”

There are other ways to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip, they do not include Instagram selfies, the ministry added.
