This afternoon the East Iceland Tunnel was closed after a traffic accident occurred in the tunnel. It was a car that did not finish around the roundabout in the tunnel, but ran into the artwork.

The police say that it has been a while since everything was cleaned up again so now the tunnel is open again.

The driver, who was alone in the car, was taken to the National Hospital. Police do not know for sure what the situation is, but they have been told that it is not life-threatening.

The car went so badly that the plates were removed and it was moved away on a truck.
