The People’s Party wants to ABOLISH the national pension

Now that the People’s Party became the clear winner in the last poll, there is an interesting interview with the chairman of Norðlýsið. The chairman has not been so interested in talking about political solutions, but has been against all proposals that should ensure that we also have a welfare state in 10, 20 and 30 years.

But with Norðlýsið he explains his plans. All good about it. But the plans are shocking.

Beinir Johannesen says clearly in the interview that now that everyone is saving up for their own pension, we should NOT depend on a pension from the state. It cannot be said more clearly: The People’s Party wants to ABOLISH the national pension.

The same party that is responsible for the largest single part of the sustainability challenge, when it introduced the flat tax and pre-taxation of pensions. Now he wants to abolish one of the pillars of the welfare state.

The purpose of the national pension and social security is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity for a dignified old age, regardless of their other living conditions. For the Liberal Party, the right to a national pension and social security is crucial.

Before the national pension came, there was only poverty aid – olmussuhjálp – for those who were not so lucky to be born with the best conditions. In order to prevent inequality from continuing and increasing in old age, we first received the national pension and then also social security. Now the People’s Party wants us to back down, reduce the national pension and increase inequality in old age even more.

We in the Liberal Party will never accept that.
