The university has a new director

It is now clear that Torkil Tórgarð will be the new director of the University of Iceland.

There were 15 applications for the position of rector, and the board has chosen to appoint Torkil Tórgarð to lead the university for the next five years.

Torkil Tórgarð was born in 1990 and will therefore be 35 years old when he takes office on 1 September. He has extensive experience on the Faroese cultural scene, especially within film art and theatre, and he has also been involved in writing and developing film plays and other plays.

In recent years he has studied psychology and communication, and is about to complete a degree in social psychology and learning.

The new director intends to place special emphasis on the relationship between man and society, and how educational and cohesive processes are created in social environments. He intends to continue much of the quality work that previous directors have left behind, and to develop the school further as an inspiring offer in the Faroese society, says the university’s board in a press release.

In recent years, the university has placed emphasis on offering education within the artistic disciplines, and this will continue to be seen again, but the new director will also strive to diversify the activities of the institution and to create an open space where all kinds of activities will be welcome, both educational and public. in various contexts.

Torkil Tórgarð replaces Hedvig Westerlund-Kapnas, who has been director since September 2019. At the public meeting at the university on Olavsøkan there will be an opportunity to greet both the outgoing and incoming director.
