Three big days in Georgia
The Faroese national team is preparing to leave Georgia and return to Faroe Islands. After the 1-0 defeat in Georgia on Thursday night, the focus is on the World Cup qualifier against Gibraltar, which will be played on Monday night or the second White Sunday night. This will be Eyðun Klakstein’s sixth game as coach, and this will be the first time that Eyðun will be at home.
While the trip to Georgia was via Istanbul in Turkey, the return trip is by charter plane from Georgia and directly to Copenhagen and then on Friday up to the Faroe Islands.
The only goal in Georgia was scored by the home team after a corner in the 9th minute. The home team was more on the ball, and the home team had more attempts against the goal, but as time went on the Faroese team put a lot of effort in the attack, and Daniel Johansen had a good attempt, and Páll A. Klettskarð had a good chance to equalize.
Among the first eleven on the Faroese team were six players who have not been among the first eleven lately. It was important to count in such a way that the team will seriously be trimmed before the big test at home on Monday night. Therefore, there will be more changes among the top eleven, compared to the team that started against Georgia.
In Georgia, Hallur Hansson was substituted in the 63rd minute. This was his 75th time on the national team.
After the injury break, Jákup B. Andreasen and Patrik Johannesen were back in the top eleven. What they both had in common was that this was their 25th time on the national team.
Fróði Benjaminsen still holds the national record. He played 95 national games, and Jóan Símun Edmundsson has played 93 national games. Viljormur Davidsen, who was captain of Georgia, is number three in the series with 87 national games.
Óli Johannesen is in fourth place with 83 national games, followed by Sølvi Vatnhamar (79), Hallur Hansson (75), Jákup Mikkelsen (73) and Gunnar Nielsen (70). Now Brandur H. Olsen is in ninth place with 66 games. He is now ahead of Jens Martin Knudsen and Gilla Rólantsson Sørensen (65).
