U21: Faroe Islands in the World Cup semifinals
The Faroese U21 men’s national team won 35-33 against Slovenia tonight. Portugal awaits in the semi-finals.
Our men keep taking everyone by surprise. Today it was immediately clear that our team was better than the team from Slovenia. The score was 19-13 to Faroe Islands in the first half. We had the difference to call the whole game and the question was only if we managed to keep our heads cold and drive the victory home – and we did.
Goalkeeper Alexandar Lacok became the player of the day, he had a save percentage of 40! Óli Mittún was mansvardur most of the second half, but it did not seem to nerve the Faroese game – we came to chances and cut off most of them.
The Faroese U21 team thus wrote history tonight, when this golden generation managed to play themselves into the semifinals. Now there are good chances to get medals, we start tomorrow in the semifinal against Portugal.
