U21s: World Cup quarter-finals!!!
The Faroe Islands won the nerve match against France in the second half and are in the World Cup quarterfinals. Although everything did not go according to plan, our game fought hard and the defense won the game in the second half. The Faroe Islands won 28-27, after the halftime score was 17-16 to France.
The Faroe Islands started, as before, with 7 against 6 in the attack. It worked well with a lot of speed on the Faroese game the first 5 minutes. The Faroe Islands took the lead 4-2. The Faroese team has made very few technical errors in the tournament so far, but there were unfortunately too many in the first half, and the French got more easy goals the next minute to 9-5. However, ours did not give up, the defense improved during the first half and Sasha Lacok stood well in the Faroese goal. The Faroe Islands came back and there was only one goal left in the first half, 17-16 to the French.
The Faroe Islands got off to a poor start in the second half. The French covered well and ours were looking for the game. The Faroe Islands came back 20-16, but never gave up. This was not the beautiful polished offensive game, but rather a defensive game. The Faroese defense stood better and better in the course of the second half, and it won us the game in the end, because the French did not manage to get a goal in the last minute. The Faroe Islands came closer and closer and went ahead at the last minute and managed to hold. The Faroe Islands won 28-27 and are in the World Cup quarterfinals, although there is one match left in the main round. After the match, Óli Mittún was voted the best player of the match. Everything did not work for Óli today, but he was tireless and he also led us to victory at the last minute. Óli scored 9 goals today.
