Want to solve the parking problem?
Parking in the city center has long been a challenge, and something needs to be done about the problem. One part of the solution may be to charge parking in various parts of the city centre. But in order for the municipality to do so, it requires authorization from the government
Mayor Elsa Berg met on Tuesday with Jóhan Christiansen, Minister of State for Transport, to discuss parking.
The idea of a parking fee is not new, and several previous city councils have discussed the issue. The aim is to solve part of the parking problems in the city center, and the intention is that the revenue from the parking fee will go to a so-called parking fund, which will improve parking and bus routes in the municipality.
The meeting also discussed the possibilities of better coordinating the schedules of the city buses and Bygdaleiðir, and how the conditions for people on bicycles can be improved.
