WE WALK IN RED FOR THE PEOPLE OF GASA
On Thursday 3 July, Amnesty International Faroe Islands will organize a march for civilians in Gaza,
and to call on the Government of the Faroe Islands to fulfill its international obligations to do its utmost to stop
the genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The march ends at Speaker’s Corner, where the program is
interesting and varied. Hanus Kamban and Lív Maria Róadóttir Jæger give a speech, Elin Brimheim
Heinesen and Kári Sverrisson play some songs, and Marjun Syderbø Kjælnes and Elin Brimheim
Heinesen reads poems. As in the recent demonstrations around the world,
people are urged to wear red to draw a common line and show that we are long overdue
crossed the red line.
Every day the situation in the Gaza Strip becomes more and more serious and unfortunate. Now Israeli
the response to Gaza has been going on for over 1 year and 9 months, most of the Gaza Strip has been destroyed,
Tens of thousands of people have been killed and even more are under the rubble. Emergency aid from the uninitiated
aid organizations are hampered, agriculture and food production are destroyed and children starve. There is a shortage of
Clean water, disease is rampant, healthcare is lacking, and hospitals are becoming morgues.
There is clear evidence of war crimes, violations of humanitarian law and human rights, crimes against
human rights and genocide. And although the world has followed the live streamed Israeli
the crimes in Gaza for more than a year and a half, Israel is allowed to continue.
COLLAPSE OF MORALITY AND INTERNATIONAL LAW
We are witnessing a collapse of morality and international law. World leaders have betrayed Palestinians in Gaza –
also the Faroese political leadership has betrayed. The promise that genocide would never again take place, can
not said to be anything but empty words. Among the political leaders of Faroe Islands, there is a dominant silence, which
messengers from the same bliss of innocent human life.
Preventing the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza is not only a moral one
obligation, but is also an obligation under international law. We call on the Government of the Faroe Islands to take responsibility now.
Amnesty International Faroe Islands calls on the Government of the Faroe Islands to respect international law, and do everything to get
a permanent ceasefire, so that the destruction of Palestine comes to an end, and that all civilians who are taken
some hostages will be released. We call on the Government of the Faroe Islands to publicly condemn the killing of innocent people
Palestinians in Gaza, and do their part to end the blockade of the Gaza Strip and ensure that independent
emergency assistance will be provided throughout the Gaza Strip.
THURSDAY WE GO IN RED
We meet on Thursday 3 July at Gundadalur Hall at 10:00. 16.30, from there we walk up to Tinganes and end
at the Speaker’s Corner, where speeches, music and poems await the crowd. The program is
Speeches: Hanus Kamban and Lív Maria Róadóttir Jæger
Music: Elin Brimheim Heinessen and Kári Sverrisson
Storytelling: Marjun Syderbø Kjelnæs and Elin Brimheim Heinesen
We encourage everyone to wear something red to show that we draw a common line that we (long ago) are
reached the red line.
I don’t know about racism, anti-Semitism or Islamophobia.
ALL OVER THE WORLD PEOPLE ARE GOING TO RED
Around the world there are demonstrations with the same message to “draw up the red line”. Among other things
The Netherlands drew a red line with 100,000 people outside the International Court of Justice in The Hague on 18 May this year.
Also, 15,000 people gathered at Christiansborg in Copenhagen on 18 June. All with the same goal to
show solidarity with the people of Gaza and with the message to stop the genocide altogether.
AMNESTY CONDEMNS ALL ATTACKS ON CIVILIANS
Amnesty International condemns all attacks on civilians. Amnesty condemns the attacks on Israel on October 7 and
the hostage-taking, which are clear war crimes. Amnesty calls for unconditional release of all hostages
all at once. Amnesty points out that the hostages will not be released by bombing Gaza, but that the best chance
Getting the hostages released is part of the ceasefire negotiations.
