Trump Expresses Concern Over U.S.-South Korea Military Exercises
In a recent post on his Truth Social platform, former President Donald Trump expressed his discontent with the United States’ longstanding commitment to joint military exercises with South Korea. He emphasized that, drawing from his personal rapport with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, he believes these exercises are not only costly but also send a “totally inappropriate and hostile” message to Pyongyang.
Trump remarked, “Throughout my presidency, our approach has been one of respect, devoid of hostility.”
Too Late to Cancel
As the next joint military exercise with South Korea is set to commence on Monday, Trump pointed out that the decision to proceed is already well established. “It is not possible to cancel at this late stage,” he noted.
In light of these exercises, Trump stated that he has directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to significantly scale back military training initiatives.
Additionally, Trump shared that he recently reached out to South Korean President Lee Jae Myung to discuss the prospect of South Korea participating in the “nuclear disarmament of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” The response from Lee was clear: “No thanks!”
