There has been ongoing discussion regarding the unfinished segment of road connecting Hvalba and Trongisvágur. Concerns have risen over the allocation and use of funds originally set aside for this project.
Initially, a budget of four million ISK was designated for the roadwork. However, as time passed with no visible progress, Landsverk announced that, after consultations with the Ministry of Transport, it would redirect these funds to three other projects: Selatraðarvegur, Fuglafjörðurvegur, and Funningsfjörðurvegur.
Earlier this month, Erhard Joensen, the former chairman of the Budget Committee, highlighted this diversion of funds, revealing that both the Ministry of Transport and the Finance Committee of the Icelandic Parliament were aware of the reallocations. It turns out they had been informed about this decision back in March 2023.
On March 8, 2023, Dennis Holm, the Minister of State for Transport, met with the Budget Committee alongside Landsverk’s management team, including Director Sigurdur Lamhauge and Head of Infrastructure Dan Sofus Hofgaard. The meeting included a discussion of the road’s status.
Just two days later, Landsverk provided a written response to the Budget Committee addressing concerns raised during the meeting. In this correspondence, they stated that the initially allocated amount was insufficient to both design and complete the road, prompting the reallocation of funds to the aforementioned projects.
