Janitor Sentenced to 42 Years for School Shooting in Bosnia

In a tragic turn of events, a janitor in Bosnia has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for the shooting deaths of three of his colleagues at a school in Sanski Most last year. This shocking incident unfolded just before the start of the school semester in August, when the principal, a secretary, and an English teacher lost their lives. Fortunately, there were no students present at the time.

The 62-year-old caretaker, who attempted to take his own life following the incident, survived but suffered serious injuries. In court proceedings, he reportedly expressed remorse for his actions.

His defense contended that he was not fully aware of what he was doing, citing ongoing discrimination in the workplace that may have compromised his mental health.

The prosecution argued that the “seriousness and brutality” of the case warranted a harsh penalty. In Bosnia, the maximum prison sentence is 45 years, leaving this decision just a few years shy of that limit. It is important to note that the judgment is not yet final and can be appealed.
