They’re at it again. Silas Olofson, Tróndur Olsen, and their ever-persistent third wheel, photographer Hallur E. Thomsen, are on the hunt for the captivating avian life of the Faroe Islands.

This Thursday, April 16, marks the launch of the first segment of the newest season of “Do You See the Bird?” airing on television.

This time, the trio has ventured out to the vast expanses of Føroyabanki.

What sets this season of “Do You See the Bird?” apart from previous ones?

Silas: “The third season of ‘Do You See the Bird?’ picks up right where the last left off. We’re traveling across the country, observing different bird species during migration seasons in spring and autumn, and even venturing out to sea to explore seabirds and other wildlife. We’ve made a conscious effort to highlight new species and visit locations that have yet to be explored. Expect plenty of fresh, exciting sights!”

Tróndur: “Absolutely. Our goal remains unchanged: to showcase the birds that surround us, often right at our doorstep without our awareness. Thanks to Silas’ stunning photography, audiences can connect intimately with these birds without scaring them off. This time, we’re filming in almost entirely new territories, with the notable exception of Suðuroy, which we’re revisiting.”

Have there been any standout moments this season?

Silas: “Several memorable events have unfolded since we wrapped filming. Spotting a very rare bird while cruising at 80 km/h was nothing short of exhilarating. The trip to Føroyabanki also proved spectacular, with a vibrant mix of birds, fish, and even whales joining us.”

Tróndur: “Indeed, many remarkable moments awaited us post-filming, each one defining in its own way. In Rituvík, we encountered a colorful visitor perched in a tree right before our eyes, oblivious to our presence. At Vatnsoyrar, an eagle majestically soared directly above us. Unfortunately, the weather during our Suðuroy shoot was quite unforgiving—overcast skies, relentless winds, and rain. But just when we thought it was all gloom and doom, the clouds parted, and a wealth of exciting happenings unfolded.”

Tróndur: “The season and the weather certainly shape the backdrop for our series. Yet, we must not overlook all the other wonders we encounter while birdwatching—be it coppery sunsets, playful whales, hares darting about, or schools of fish gliding beneath the surface.”

What do you hope viewers take away from “Do You See the Bird?”

Silas: “We aspire to ignite a sense of wonder about our birds and nature among viewers. It’s our hope that these programs inspire people to venture outside, appreciate the beauty around them, and recognize the importance of protecting it.”
