For the third time since 2022, the European Union Council has referenced the Faroe Islands in its latest conclusions regarding cooperation with other Western European nations. This recurring inclusion highlights not only the Faroe Islands’ growing prominence within the EU framework but also their strategic importance amid a shifting geopolitical landscape, according to Bárður á Steig Nielsen, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The recent EU Council document emphasizes the council’s appreciation for the support the Faroe Islands have extended to Ukraine, as well as their alignment with the EU on sanctions against Russia. Such solidarity underlines the Faroe Islands’ commitment to broader European values and stability.
In addition to the Faroe Islands, the document also acknowledges other countries, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Andorra, San Marino, and Monaco, all of which play roles in this evolving collaboration within the region.
