Ethan Galbraith Set to Depart Swansea City for Stoke City in Eight-Figure Transfer
Ethan Galbraith appears set to leave Swansea City, with the Welsh club accepting an eight-figure bid for the talented midfielder from Northern Ireland. The 25-year-old is slated to undergo a medical in the Potteries on Tuesday, marking a swift exit after just one year with the Swans.
Galbraith, who is versatile enough to also take up a role at right-back, proved to be a standout player during his stint at Swansea, having joined the club from Leyton Orient for £1.5 million. Despite the club’s intentions to secure him with a long-term deal this summer, it seems the former Manchester United youth star is on the brink of a new chapter.
Sources within Swansea have indicated that Galbraith communicated his reluctance to extend his contract, which currently runs until 2028, with an option for an additional year. Rather than compelling him to remain, the club has opted to facilitate his move.
This development comes as a significant setback for head coach Vitor Matos, particularly given Galbraith’s contributions last season. Over 44 appearances, he managed to net four goals, often performing admirably in positions not initially his preference, including defense.
In April, Matos expressed his hope that Galbraith would be with Swansea for many years, praising him as a “really important player.” As his departure looms, the club is left to ponder what this loss means for their ambitions moving forward.
