Brandon Davies Announces Surprising Retirement from Professional Basketball
In a stunning turn of events, 34-year-old Brandon Davies has decided to retire from competitive basketball, leaving his mark on the EuroLeague. The American big man mutually terminated his contract with Japan’s Alvark Tokyo, bringing an end to an illustrious career that spanned over a decade.
Davies showcased his talents in the NBA, playing a total of 78 games with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets, before captivating fans in Europe where he quickly became one of the most dominant centers in the EuroLeague. Under the guidance of Coach Sarunas Jasikevicius, he left a lasting impression while with Zalgiris and Barcelona, earning accolades including a spot on the EuroLeague’s First Team in 2019 and the Second Team in 2021.
Throughout his career, Davies had notable stints with some of Europe’s elite clubs, like Zalgiris, Barcelona, Milan, and Partizan. His journey took him across Lithuania, Spain, Italy, Serbia, and France, where he celebrated numerous championships. Recognized for his effective low-post play and sharp mid-range shooting, Davies became one of the most sought-after big men in the European circuit.
Last season, he averaged 13.4 points and 4.9 rebounds while playing for Alvark Tokyo, with the expectation of continuing for another year. However, in a sudden decision, the talented pivot has chosen to step away from the game. Drafted out of Brigham Young University, Davies leaves behind a legacy as one of the game’s most respected big men.
