Rótin in Klaksvík Recognized for Commitment to Youth and Sustainability
In a notable recognition of educational excellence, Rótin—a school in Klaksvík—has been nominated for this year’s Nordic Council Environment Prize, underscoring its dedication to fostering young minds equipped to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change.
Jóhanna á Tjaldrafløtti, the school’s director, expressed her pride in the nomination, stating, “This is of great importance to our school and acknowledges the hard work we’ve put into this initiative.”
Each year, the Environment Prize adopts a new theme, and this year focuses on the crucial role of educating young people. The emphasis is on equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and voice needed to influence their own futures, contribute to sustainable development, and adapt to the realities of climate change.
Rótin, which was previously known as Húsarhaldsskúlin, is among eight finalists out of 53 nominations for this esteemed accolade. The final winner will be unveiled on October 20, with a prize of ISK 300,000 to be awarded during the Nordic Council meeting in Helsinki on October 28.
