In a bittersweet turn of events, athlete Steph McColgan has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming races at Glasgow 2026. Though there had been cautious hope that she would bounce back in time for Monday’s event at Scotstoun, her team ultimately determined that the timing simply wasn’t right.
“Sadly, I won’t be competing at Glasgow 2026,” McColgan shared in a heartfelt statement, acknowledging the disappointment felt by both her and her supporters. “After nearly ten weeks away from the track, it probably won’t come as a huge surprise.”
On a brighter note, she revealed, “The good news is I’m back running. The bad news is I’ve simply run out of time to get myself—and my toe—back into spikes.”
Reflecting on her journey, McColgan noted, “Having started the year stronger than ever, I know the fitness is there. But with only taking my first run outdoors a couple of weeks ago, the clock was always against me.”
Despite her absence from the competition, McColgan remains committed to supporting her teammates. “I’ll be in Glasgow all week cheering on Team Scotland and wish everyone on the team the best of luck at the Games,” she concluded.
