After witnessing yet another round of missed opportunities, the frustration was palpable for the Faroese captain, Pernille Brandenborg. Yet, oddly enough, following their 32-27 defeat to Montenegro in their first World Cup match, Brandenborg found some solace in the overall performance of her team.

“Of course, it’s disheartening to squander so many chances,” she reflected, her eyes revealing a mix of disappointment and determination. “But I believe it’s essential for each of us to focus on our individual growth. I personally fell short today, but on the positive side, we created numerous scoring opportunities and managed to net 27 goals.” Her words echoed a sense of resilience.

The Faroe Islands began the match with promise, but gradually, Montenegro seized control. Notably, goalkeeper Armelle Kelly Attingre played a pivotal role for Montenegro, achieving an impressive save rate of nearly 50%, which proved formidable against such a skilled opponent.

Looking ahead, the Faroese team faces Spain this Friday, following Spain’s solid win over Paraguay. With a chance to cement a place in the next round, Spain will undoubtedly present a tough challenge to the Faroese squad.

“We’ll quickly analyze this recent match,” Brandenborg said, exuding confidence. “Then, it’s time to regroup and push ourselves further. We have room for improvement, and I genuinely believe we can rise to the occasion against Spain. However, we must bring our absolute best if we want to compete.”
