Lív B. Zachariassen has stepped into a significant role in the Faroese midfield following Brynja Høj’s departure from the national team. The recent match against Montenegro presented a formidable challenge, one that tested the team’s resolve.
At the heart of Montenegro’s strategy was Tatjana Brnovic, a towering presence at 1.85 meters and weighing in at over 80 kilograms. Her strength and agility on the field proved formidable for the Faroese defenders.
“It was a rocky start for us,” Zachariassen admitted. “We struggled to apply pressure effectively, and we found ourselves standing too far off, making it difficult to contain her.”
As the game progressed, however, the Faroese squad began to adapt. Despite facing Montenegro’s offensive threats primarily from the wings, the challenge intensified as the visitors capitalized on their opportunities—demonstrating a finishing prowess that left the Faroese side wanting.
“We all felt we played a solid handball match,” noted Zachariassen. “Considering how many chances we squandered, we could have easily scored over 30 goals. I don’t think many teams would have managed against them, given how strong they are.”
Looking forward to Friday night’s clash against Spain, Zachariassen is optimistic. “We have plenty of positives to build on,” she reflected, indicating that the team is ready to regroup and take on the next challenge head-on.
