Tragic Bus Accident in Central Stockholm Claims Three Lives
On Friday afternoon at 3:20 PM, Stockholm police received an urgent report regarding a bus accident in the heart of the city. The vehicle, which was on its regular route between Östra Station and Vaxholm, veered off course, striking a bus shelter before crashing into several trees and finally colliding with a post.
The bus continued its chaotic journey, traveling approximately 40 meters along the pavement before coming to a halt.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, six individuals were injured, with three of them suffering critical injuries. The other three victims have since been admitted to the hospital; however, two of them remain under care, with their conditions currently described as stable.
All the Victims Were Women
By Monday, authorities confirmed that all three fatalities were women aged between 55 and 65. Among the deceased, one worked at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while another was employed at Karolinska University Hospital.
The police have notified the families of these two victims. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to locate the relatives of the third woman, who are believed to be residing in another European country, as noted in an update from the police on Monday afternoon.
Initially, the bus driver was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death and bodily harm. However, following police investigations, he was released on Saturday, with officials stating there is no evidence to suggest the incident was intentional.
