Traders Express Frustration Over Tórsfest Disruptions

Dissatisfaction is brewing among traders and long-time residents of downtown Havn as preparations for Tórsfest, set to take place this evening, have prolonged road closures and blocked access in the area.

Among the affected businesses is FK í Miðbýnum, a local shop voicing its concerns over the significant accessibility issues they are facing. In a heartfelt open letter posted on their Facebook page, the shop entreats the Torshavn city council with a straightforward request:

“Could the roads in the city center be reopened early tomorrow morning rather than at 1 PM? This ‘sorla’ is throttling all commercial activity here in Midbyn, and we may resort to blocking the roads for additional days. In other locales, it takes just a few hours to set up and dismantle such platforms. Next year, consider moving the event to Skálatrøð—this would create far better conditions for everyone. Wishing you all a good Olavsøk.”

Attempts to reach Elsa Berg, the Mayor of Havn, for comment were unsuccessful today, as she was unavailable for discussion.

Tórsfest, a private and commercial event, raises important questions about the impact of such gatherings on local life and activities. We sought to inquire with the mayor about the regulations governing these events and the extent of their permissible disruptions to the community.
