Eyðun Klakstein and Atli Gregersen Remain at the Helm of Faroese Men’s National Football Team
In a significant development for Faroese football, Eyðun Klakstein and Atli Gregersen will continue their roles as head coach and assistant coach, respectively, for the Faroese men’s national team. The duo has recently signed an extended contract with the Football Association of Iceland, ensuring their leadership through 2029. Joining them in the coaching staff are Magni Mohr, Jákup Reinert Hansen, and Géza Tamás Turi, as confirmed by the Football Association’s official website.
“I’m truly honored to continue as national team coach,” Klakstein expressed, reflecting on the confidence placed in him by the Football Association. “I’m grateful for this trust and excited to work alongside the same committed coaching team as we tackle the challenges ahead.”
Under Klakstein’s guidance, the national team showcased remarkable progress over the past year, achieving notable victories. The Faroe Islands made headlines with back-to-back wins against Gibraltar and a stunning 4-0 triumph over Montenegro. Moreover, they secured a memorable 2-1 victory against the Czech Republic, marking one of the team’s best performances to date.
The previous contract was set to expire at the end of this year, and Klakstein had expressed a desire for a new agreement before the upcoming Nations League. With this latest development, the Football Association has successfully secured his position for the next three years.
“We are delighted to have extended our partnership with Eyðun and the entire coaching staff,” said Christian F. Andreasen, president of the Football Association. “Their dedication and professionalism have been exemplary, and we are confident they will continue to foster the growth of the Faroese men’s national team.”
