Oscar Bobb Earns Pep Guardiola’s Praise Despite Limited Playing Time
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed admiration for young Norwegian talent Oscar Bobb, 22, who has faced a challenging season marked by injuries and limited field time. Following his appearance from the bench during the recent match against Newcastle, where City suffered a disappointing defeat, questions about Bobb’s role in the team became a focal point at the pre-match press conference.
Guardiola praised Bobb’s early season performances, highlighting his defensive capabilities and sharp intuition during the first few games. “I have an abundance of positive things to say about him. His high pressure and instincts were remarkable,” he noted with evident enthusiasm.
Bobb’s journey has not been straightforward; he missed a significant portion of last season due to injury after breaking into the first team during the 2023/24 season. With a total of 45 appearances for Manchester City since his debut, his potential remains clear to Guardiola. “We missed him last season, and he has the ability to help us immensely when on the pitch,” he added.
During the international break, Bobb made a notable impact, assisting Erling Haaland in Norway’s recent 2-1 victory against Italy. Guardiola took notice of this performance, stating, “In the last international match, he played exceptionally well.”
Norway’s head coach, Ståle Solbakken, also weighed in on Bobb’s situation, suggesting that he could be more assertive both at City and on the national stage. “He is a modest individual. He has room to grow and be bolder in his game,” Solbakken shared, emphasizing that discussions between him and Guardiola about Bobb have been frequent.
This season, Bobb has started seven matches for Manchester City. Nevertheless, Guardiola remains mindful of the long injury layoff and Bobb’s youth. “He is young and must take it step by step. He needs to make the most of the minutes he is given to benefit both the team and himself,” the City manager concluded.
As the season unfolds, the focus will undoubtedly remain on Bobb’s development, with fans eager to see how this talented young player will assert himself within the Manchester City squad.
