Jana Mittún Shines Bright as Viborg Secures European Championship

In an impressive display of skill, Jana Mittún scored four goals and assisted two more, leading Viborg to a decisive 39-30 victory over IK Sävehof, clinching the European League football championship.

The talented Faroese back has recently extended her contract with the Danish club until 2028, demonstrating her commitment to the team. In a match that showcased her talent and determination, Mittún now sets her sights on the next challenge: group play in the upcoming EHF European competition, slated for next year.

Viborg has also secured a spot in the semifinals, or the so-called Final Four, of the Danish Cup, scheduled to take place between Christmas and New Year’s. This achievement further underscores the club’s impressive form this season.

In addition to Mittún’s milestones, head coach Anders Friis has similarly renewed his contract, committing to the team until 2028.

Looking ahead, Mittún’s next focus is the World Championship in handball. She and the other 17 players selected for the national team will gather for training in the Faroe Islands on Monday, November 17. This preparation will lead up to their match against Iceland in Tjarnon on Saturday, November 22.

The championship will kick off for the Faroese team on November 26, with a challenging opener against Montenegro—who recently defeated the Faroe Islands in a European Championship qualifying match in Tjarnon.

As her journey unfolds, all eyes will be on Jana Mittún, a player poised to make her mark on the international stage.
