City Councilor Annfinn Brekkstein voiced his opposition last year to the idea of relocating the National Theater to Bursatanga, a decision that has stirred ongoing debate.

Originally, plans were set in motion for the national theater to be established in Havn’s Bursatanga area. However, the Torshavn City Council made a decisive move last year, opting for “a different location than the Eastern Harbor area,” as noted in the official minutes.

In a recent interview with Icelandic National Broadcasting, Torshavn’s current mayor, Elsa Berg, revealed that the municipality is still pursuing the vision of a national theater for that region—an initiative that seems to contradict the city council’s previous resolution.

Brekkstein has been vocal in his disapproval, urging that the council’s decision should be respected and adhered to.
