Sóley Sjúrðaberg Appointed Integration Coordinator for Northern Region
In a significant move towards promoting integration within its communities, Leirvík’s own Sóley Sjúrðaberg has been named the integration coordinator for the northern region. This area encompasses the municipalities of Fugloy, Viðareiðis, Hvannasund, Kunoy, Klaksvík, Fuglafjörður, and Eysturkommuna, as reported by Klaksvíkar commune.
The appointment aligns with the Integration Act that mandates each municipality to have an integration coordinator by July 1, 2026. This pivotal role will focus on advancing the integration process, spearheading activities to promote inclusivity, and serving as a point of contact for immigrants seeking to better connect with their new communities.
Moreover, the act encourages collaboration among municipalities to enhance the effectiveness of integration efforts and coordinators.
With a collective population of approximately 10,500, the seven municipalities are poised to benefit from this dedicated role.
Aged 41, Sóley brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. She holds a master’s degree in health sciences, along with qualifications as an occupational therapist.
Starting May 1, Sóley will officially assume her responsibilities, with her office based in Klaksvík. She will work closely with representatives from all participating municipalities, ensuring a unified approach to integration throughout the region.
