In their last encounter, the two teams made SHL history, but this time around, only three periods were necessary to determine the outcome. Skellefteå demonstrated their superior class, clinching a decisive 5-0 victory on Thursday evening.

“Tonight’s match was significantly shorter, but the atmosphere in the stands was fantastic. It’s a bit eerie when it’s so quiet on the ice. I think the score doesn’t fully reflect our performance; we were indeed better, but not by that much. We have the potential to play even better hockey,” reflected forward Pär Lindholm.

Lars Bryggman was pivotal in the night’s proceedings, netting two goals and helping the home team secure a comforting 2-0 lead early in the game.

“We played really well throughout the match, especially in our defensive setups. It’s incredibly exciting to be playing hockey like this right now,” Bryggman remarked after wrapping up the second period.

“We Played Well the Whole Match”

This match was unmistakably charged with rivalry. Luleå, led by Erik Gustafsson and coach Thomas “Bulan” Berglund, found themselves visibly frustrated after a notable non-call against Skellefteå, a moment that eventually contributed to the home team’s momentum.

Yet, despite the competitive atmosphere, the game was never truly in doubt. Skellefteå struck for two quick goals in the final period, asserting their dominance and extending their lead in the semi-final series to 2-0. The next showdown is set for Saturday in Luleå.

“Having a 2-0 lead is crucial. We played well the entire match,” said Max Krogdahl, who drew a match penalty in the closing moments. “We’re looking forward to the challenge ahead.”
