Contaminants Detected in Ministry Offices
A recent survey conducted by the Icelandic Technology Institute has revealed the troubling presence of asbestos, PCBs, and heavy metals within the office spaces of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Culture, located in Eirargarður.
These substances are not just ordinary pollutants; they are recognized as harmful and toxic, with some even suspected of being carcinogenic.
Next week, stakeholders will convene to make pivotal decisions regarding the removal of these hazardous materials. “We will determine which substances will be addressed and the methods for their removal,” stated Jógvan Ósá, CEO of Bústøðin.
Bústøðin is set to take over Eirargarður 2 in the coming year. If the Landsstýrið has its way, the renovation is expected to result in updated reading apartments ready for occupancy by the start of the reading session in September of next year.
While the recent findings have introduced an additional four weeks to the renovation timeline, Bústøðin’s director has assured the public that these surveys will not significantly impact the overall schedule.
