On Monday, the Trump administration announced the repeal of a Biden-era initiative aimed at requiring airlines to compensate passengers for extensive delays and cancellations.

The now-scrapped plan proposed a tiered compensation structure: $200 to $300 for domestic delays lasting three to six hours; $375 to $525 for delays between six to nine hours; and $750 to $775 for disruptions exceeding nine hours.

In its statement published in the Federal Register, the administration expressed skepticism about its legal authority to enforce specific refund mandates on airlines during such disruptions. The Department of Transportation noted that airline representatives had asserted their commitment to passenger care, emphasizing that they already provide assistance voluntarily during significant travel disruptions.

Trade group Airlines for America reinforced this sentiment, stating that airlines are motivated to address passenger concerns proactively.
