Rowing Spectacle Set to Unfold at Olavsøkan
With thirty young athletes leading the charge, the upcoming rowing event promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent and determination. Among the participants, fifteen are set to take to the water in both the gentu and dreingja boats, with the children’s races slated to take place between two and three o’clock.
As the sun climbs higher, the focus will shift to the adult and semi-adult categories, with races commencing at three o’clock and extending until six. A total of ten races will unfold throughout the afternoon, culminating in a highly anticipated final featuring the tenth crew, scheduled to start at 17:50.
This year, the spotlight shines brightly on the eight-person vessels, with an impressive lineup of nine boats entered in this popular category. In contrast, the ten-man vessels will see a smaller field, with only three crews ready to compete.
Adding to the excitement of Olavsøkan, there will be no fewer than four direct finals for the coveted Icelandic Championship titles. These prestigious races will include younger crews from the 5th crew category, featuring both girls and boys, in addition to the 6th crew men’s and 8th crew competitors.
For those unable to attend in person, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service will cover the event live on both radio and television, kicking off after the opening ceremony at Vaglin. In an innovative twist, Kringvarpið will host guests in the studio at the dock, providing insights and commentary between the races.
