At approximately 12:30 AM last night, the trawler Pressarin, hailing from the Mest shipyard, set sail towards Skerhólm in Sørvágsfjörður and promptly issued a distress call.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) responded swiftly, attempting to reach the Pressarin for further information. Unfortunately, there was no reply—a likely consequence of the two crew members’ frantic efforts to stabilize the vessel, which had begun taking on water.
The situation escalated as the crew managed to inform the police, who relayed the urgent message to the MRCC. In response, a helicopter from Atlantsflog was dispatched to the scene.
In addition to the helicopter, the Sørvágur rescue society deployed its smaller boat, Rescue Ivan, to assist. Rescue Sverri was, regrettably, unavailable at the time, but the Luna-owned vessel, Tvørfell, also joined the rescue efforts. The helicopter successfully deployed a crew member equipped with two pumps to help maintain the Pressarin’s buoyancy while towing it towards Sørvágur.
By morning, the trawler was safely moored at the quay in Sørvágur, concluding a tense night at sea.
